Procedures protecting authentic authorship

Ghostwriting and guest authorship

The Editorial Board of Rail Vehicles/Pojazdy Szynowe introduced protective conditions against the phenomenon of “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship”, due to the need to run the journal in accordance with the principles of reliability, honesty and transparency required in the academic community.

Ghostwriting” is the act of someone who made a significant contribution to the publication without disclosing participation as one of the authors or without notifying in the acknowledgments in the publication.

Guest authorship” (honorary authorship) occurs when a person’s contribution to work is negligible or none at all and still appears as an author or a co-author of the publication.

The Editors introduced the following procedures in order to counteract “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship”:

  1. The Authors are required to submit a declaration of co-authorship of their work in the Authors’ Statements Section when entered their work into the Editorial System.
  2. The Authors provide information on affiliation and participation (i.e. who is the author of the concept, assumptions, methods, protocol, etc. used in the preparation of the publication).
  3. The Authors are obliged to provide the Editorial Board with information about the sources of financing the publication, the contribution of research institutions, associations and other entities (financial disclosure).
  4. By signing the declaration, the Authors assume responsibility for compliance with the “ghostwriting” and “guest authorship” procedures.

The declaration form taking into account the above mentioned requirements can be found on the Rail Vehicles/Pojazdy Szynowe website when submitting an article in the Authors' Statements Section.

The Editorial Board of Rail Vehicles/Pojazdy Szynowe informs that any detected proceedings of misconduct will result in the rejection of publishing the article at any stage of preparation and notifying the institution employing the Authors and as well as any other entities that contributed to the article.

The Editorial Board of Rail Vehicles/Pojazdy Szynowe keeps a record of any cases of scientific misconduct, taking into account: the Author/Authors, the title of the article, employing and financing institution as well as any other entities contributed into the article.
