The article presents the issues related to the interaction of the wheel and rail in modern rail
vehicles. This interdisciplinary issue is becoming more and more important due to the
progression of loads resulting from the constantly increasing pressure of the wheelset on the
track and the speed of the running vehicles. Besides the tendency to increase the capacity of the
railway lines is also increasing, which is related to the optimization of the transport potential,
and thus leads to more and more frequent loads, which causes a greater wear of the
cooperating friction work in a further consequence.
