The article presents the issues related to the wear of the outer outline of monoblock wheel rims
in rail vehicles. The most often causes of wheel wear during commercial operation of rail
vehicles are presented over the many decades of experiences gathered by European boards.
The effects of rail vehicle wheels wear and countermeasures against wear are presented.
